The cruise traffic to Oslo have grown by 8-10 per cetnt annually for a long period of time, except for a slight turn downward in 2007. In 2009 there were 149 cruise ship arrivals at port of Oslo, compared to 146 the year before. Also, the ships' average size has increased.

Goods traffic affected by economic downturn

The annual statistics 2009 shows a decrease in all goods categories. Total quantities were around 11 per cent less than in 2008. First and foremost, this is due to the global recession. However, toward the end of the year traffic started to rise and in the last quarter was back at 2008 level.

Most other Scandinavian ports have experienced similar or even stronger decreases in their goods traffic volumes as well.

International ferry line closed down

The international ferries' passenger traffic at Port of Oslo experienced a decrease in 2009, too. The decrease is mainly caused by the closing down of the Color Line Jylland line to Hirtshals/Frederikshavn in 2008.

International ferries have approximately 2,3 million of Port of Oslo's 6,5 passengers.
