Extended cruise season in Oslo

Change in the split in nationalities
A modest estimate shows that Oslo will have had 310 000 cruise passengers on 174 different ships when the year is gone. The figures in the different nationalities differ this year compared to former years. Approx 100 000 of the guests come from Germany. The German cruise line, AIDA Cruises has had 39 calls in Oslo in 2011, from where 29 have been over-night-stay where the guests could make use of the vibrant night life in Oslo.

Approx 38 000 are British and approx 34 000 are US citizens. Only a couple of years ago the Americans were the biggest group of cruise passengers to Oslo - more than 80 % of the total. The Europeans have really started to choose cruise vacations, which is shown in our statistics. Analysers mean that in 2015 there will be more Europeans than Americans on cruise vacations.

As number 4 on the list of the Port of Oslo we find Italy with approx 30 000 cruise passengers. The two important Italian cruise lines, Costa Cruises and MSC Cruises are frequent in Oslo.

Many Norwegian passengers
Number 6 on the Oslo Port list is Norway with approx 18 000 passengers. That is due to the fact that RCCL also this summer has turned their ship Vision of the Seas in Oslo. Many Norwegians found it comfortable to walk down to the pier at Filipstad and sail out to St. Petersburg, around the British Isles or to Amsterdam.

All time high in 2012 as well!
The cruise future is bright for Oslo. Per October 1^st 2011 194 ships are on the list for 2012. When one look at the ships GRT we can estimate that the amount of passengers will be 330 000 - 350 000. Modest surveys show that each cruise passenger will spend NOK 1500, so these figures are very interesting both for city and port.

The season extends - in 2012 only 4 months will be without cruise calls. The Port of Oslo has no ice problems, so maybe this port in the future can be a all year round port of call?
